From Istanbul
to the Carpathians

A comprehensive 8-day route — at a hard level, covering both legendary roads of the Carpathian Mountains and the most striking cities of Transylvania.

Day 1

Istanbul → Bucharest

Leaving Istanbul, we leave the flowing roads of Thrace behind and cross into Romania via Bulgaria. Crossing the Danube, we continue on Romania's wide, calm roads, reaching the country's capital, Bucharest, by the end of the day.

Day 2

Bucharest → Targu Mures

Leaving Bucharest behind, we head towards the interior of Romania, into Transylvania. As we climb from wide plains to the foothills of the Carpathians, the character of the road changes; we reach Targu Mures amid winding roads and lush green landscapes.

Day 3

Targu Mures → Bicaz → Borsec → Targu Mures

Today we enter one of the most striking landscapes of the Carpathians. Passing through roads winding among the high cliffs of the Bicaz Gorge, we reach the forest-covered mountains of Borsec, then return to Targu Mures enjoying the rising and falling curving roads.

Day 4

Targu Mures → Brasov → Ploiesti

Following the lush green valleys of Transylvania and the mountain roads of the Carpathians, we head towards Brasov. Leaving the historic city atmosphere behind, we descend towards Ploiesti via mountain passes, continuing our ride amid long curves and changing views.

Day 5

Ploiesti → Curtea de Arges → Transfagarasan → Sibiu

Today one of the most unforgettable stages of the tour awaits us. After Curtea de Arges we begin climbing into the Carpathians, rising towards Balea Lake via Transfagarasan's consecutive curves and famous hairpins. After this unique journey through the clouds at high altitude, we descend towards Sibiu.

Day 6

Sibiu → Sebes → Transalpina → Curtea de Arges

Leaving Sibiu, we climb via Sebes to Transalpina, one of Romania's highest and most striking mountain roads. Amid open mountain views, long curves and high altitude, we pass over the peaks of the Carpathians and begin descending again, reaching Curtea de Arges by the end of the day.

Day 7

Curtea de Arges → Varna

Leaving the Carpathians behind, we return to Romania's more open and flowing roads. Heading towards the Danube, we cross into Bulgaria, reaching Varna amid rural roads and views approaching the Black Sea.

Day 8

Varna → Istanbul · Return

Leaving Varna, we leave the Black Sea coastline behind, heading south through eastern Bulgaria. Crossing the border, we return to the familiar roads of Thrace, arriving in Istanbul with the memories of eight days of unique riding in the Carpathians.
